SNAP! Conference Thrifty Stashy Swap

You may have noticed this button on my sidebar and wondered, “What is SNAP! and when will Laura explain it to me?”
SNAP! Conference for creative bloggers
Am I right? I can sometimes feel what my readers want to know. Truth be told, I may confuse those feelings with other feelings of my own such as, “I wonder what those artificially-dyed-yet-still-so-pretty Blue Marshmallow Peeps taste like?” And then confusion sets in, as I debate whether or not I should try sampling one of those blue bunnies all in a row staring at me, or if I should write a blog post about it, or possibly both.
So. SNAP is an awesome conference coming up in just two short weeks in Salt Lake City, Utah, where I’ll get to finally meet so many of my crafty blogging friends, and that’s just for starters. SNAP is purposefully designed for craft and DIY bloggers to network and learn from some of the “bigger bloggers” who’ve already been there, done that, on topics such as social media, balancing work and home life, working with sponsors, and more. There’s some fantastic exhibitors and sponsors lined up that we can chat and network with too. I’m excited in particular for a chalk paint demo that will eventually translate into me sharing some chalk paint DIYs with you here. Win-win!
From the SNAP website, the conference is summed up this way:
There is something a bit different about being a creative blogger…Instead of dissecting life and examining the pieces, we’re busy dreaming, sharing and building things up. We inspire one another and when we connect in ways that comfort and sustain, it is something truly extraordinary. That is why we launched SNAP – a community where imaginative bloggers can come together; learn from one another and walk away invigorated.
I’ll be rooming with my two best blogging buds – Johnnie from Saved By Love Creations, and Amy from Plucking Daisies. In fact, Amy and I are flying together. Though we’ve chatted, texted, and hung out on Google hangouts, this will be the first time we are getting together in person! It will be epic.
I adore Johnnie and Amy for their fun ideas and projects. And here’s one of them: They got a bunch of us SNAP attendees paired up with each other to do a fun swap. I am paired with Deneen from Dreaming in Color. We exchanged several emails sharing what products we like to craft with, and what we’re always looking for when hunting and picking through thrift stores for our projects.
I mentioned that I love crafting with vintage lace, ephemera, anything by Tim Holtz, Mod Podge, and that I love to paint wooden items. I also mentioned my crazy-cat-lady-level of love for my cats, and also my love of music. Check out what Deneen sent to me!
Gorgeous vintage lace…
gorgeous vintage lace
Wooden eighth notes, vintage buttons, vintage sewing needles, canceled LOVE stamps, and old-fashioned correction tape…
vintage ephemera and sewing notions
Vintage images in sticker form, a fun magnetic cat frame, and some vintage cards…
paper ephemera for craft projects
Tim Holtz products, Mod Podge Glow-in-the-Dark, and pretty beads…
some of my favorite craft products
And all of that was stashed inside of this awesome fixer upper: an old jewelry box just begging for a total makeover!

Opening Deneen’s box of goodies felt like Christmas Day! I’ve already got some fun crafty project ideas for several of these items. The jewelry box is going to turn into something completely different, and will take some time, but I’m super excited with the idea I have in mind!
So what did Deneen receive from me? Based on what her favorite things are, I sent her a selection of pretty papers, some handmade; vintage lace seam binding in several colors; and a very beat-up and sad looking vintage wood pedestal that I knew she would turn into something beautiful. And she did just that! You can see her makeover of the wooden pedestal on her blog. It is gorgeous. And while you’re visiting Deneen’s blog, click around and look at her fun posts. Deneen has a talent for transforming old furniture and accent pieces into gorgeous home decor.
I can’t wait to meet Deneen in person and give her a hug, because I feel like I already know her. And that’s what this Thrifty Stashy Swap is all about: getting to know our fellow bloggers, our partners in the crimes of crafting and DIYing!
Stay tuned!

What an awesome lot of crafty goodness! I can’t wait to see what you make…and of course to fly the friendly skies and look at funny cat pictures. Are you good with directions? If you spin me in a circle I don’t know where I am. (Counting on you to get us to the gate on time). I’ll have that “La-fawn-duh” sign so you can find me. Yay SNAP!

I can’t wait to see what I do with these goodies either, Johnnie! Seriously, my schedule has become so packed that I doubt I’ll be able to complete anything new with these awesome finds until after SNAP. And patience is not one of my virtues. 😉 8 days until we meet in person! 🙂
