Welcome to another awesome edition of Crafty Hangouts!

This month we’re being sponsored by Minwax!

Farmhouse Decor DIY: Stain a Stool! #woodprojectshoa

Minwax continues to be on the cutting edge of easy-to-use stains and finishes, not only for furniture, but for crafting too.

I’m especially in love with their Express Color Wiping Stain & Finish, which is water-based and includes the stain and finish in the same tube! Talk about easy!

The Express Color stains come in traditional wood finish colors, as well as crimson, emerald, indigo and onyx. (The emerald stain is simply gorgeous!)

Watch my short video tutorial below to learn more about these awesome stains . . .

Here’s the Thanksgiving spool craft (shown in the video) that I made last year using Express Color stain in Crimson:

Aren’t they cute? Here’s a close-up of the stained spools, after glitter was added:

To create my farmhouse-style stool, I started with an unfinished wood stool from the craft store:

I applied one coat of Express Color in Onyx (black) to the legs:

And I applied two coats of Express Color in Crimson to the seat:

I think I’ll keep this stool in our library, with some vintage books piled on top!

If — after watching the video — you have any questions on this project, please leave them for me in the comments below.

Super cool, Laura! I am really interested in staining… you have inspired me!

Pet Scribbles is where I share my craft tutorials, home and garden projects, and occasional stories about my cats. I can never have enough pretty craft paints to work with, and I love to make things look time-worn with distressing and aging. Gardening is my therapy!
