What is Phoomph?
That’s got to be your first question after seeing the title of this post, so I’ll get right to it!
Phoomph is an amazing craft product that enables you to do fabric crafts without sewing. Without sewing! Whoo hoo!
With kids wrapping up the school year soon, grab some Phoomph and create some fun kids crafts over the Summer months.
What can you create?
Well, as part of this month’s Crafty Hangouts, we’re using Phoomph to create a variety of fun kids crafts!
Special thanks to Coats and Clark and Phoomph for sponsoring this month’s Crafty Hangouts and for providing us with their awesome product to craft with!
Stay tuned, as I’ll share a link below so you can see all of the easy craft ideas.
Make a Denim Box using Phoomph!
My project is a fun one that kids of all ages will love: a special box they can keep on their dresser or nightstand to hold their stuff!
Here’s what the Phoomph “stiff” version looks like. (Phoomph comes in both stiff and soft versions, as well as in several color choices.)
I’m upcycling a pair of old jeans to cover the box.
C) Place that sticky side down onto the underside of your chosen fabric.
D) Turn the fabric over and smooth it out with your hands.
My favorite part of Phoomph is that it smooths out any wrinkles that might be in your fabric. Just look at how the denim jean fabric below looks like it was ironed!
E) Cut the fabric and Phoomph (now attached together) to the size you need.
F) Peel the backing off the Phoomph to reveal another sticky side. Adhere to your chosen surface.
Here’s a close-up view so you can see how clean your fabric cuts with Phoomph attached. There are no frayed edges!
And do you see the blue color? That’s another neat quality of Phoomph: the edges of each sheet are colored so you can coordinate the Phoomph sheets to your fabric projects!
I covered the entire box with denim fabric using Phoomph, and even used the smaller scraps left over to create the tag you see on the front of the box too.
On the inside of the box, I attached a jean pocket to the lid using Phoomph.
I used a small piece of Phoomph to make a fake patch to put on the jean pocket. (Clockwise from top left…) I attached a small square of Phoomph to some t-shirt fabric, then drew an initial “L” backwards. Next I cut out the initial, peeled off the backing and attached it to the jean pocket.
This is a fun project for kids to put together. And if they upcycle a pair of their old jeans or a favorite t-shirt, it makes the box even more personal to them.
And that’s how to make a denim box!
