Daily Craft TV: online craft classes!

Daily Craft TV online craft classes! Enter the giveaway to win a free class of your choice!

I received a complimentary class from Daily Craft TV for the purposes of this review, but all opinions are 100% my own!

With the big wide online world of the interwebs, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that you can learn just about anything you want to via online tutorials, how-to’s, videos, and the zillions of craft and DIY blogs out there including this one. There’s a fairly new resource that is a great source of tips and techniques for crafters: Daily Craft TV.

Daily Craft TV provides online video classes with top-level instructors who are experts in their craft niches. There are instructors and classes available in the following categories: Quilting, Sewing, Knitting, Crochet, Scrapbooking, and Papercrafts.

From Sew a Cute Chevron Fabric Basket (sewing) to Dye Your Own Yarn with Cake Dyes (knitting) to Unique Concepts for Paper and Decor (scrapbooking), it appears there’s something for every type and level of crafter. I took some time to decide on which class to take first because of the large selection, which is a good thing. To help me decide, I was able to see a preview video about each class, as well as a course outline.

Daily Craft TV is clean, streamlined and easy to navigate. My one – and my only – disappointment was that although you can click on the list of instructors on the left-hand side of the pages, you don’t end up seeing each instructor’s bio, just what other online classes they offer. I’m hoping individual bios will be added to learn more about them.

I decided to take: Expert Advice Tools and Tips of the Trade.

This 1:17 hour-long class was separated into six chapters:

Chapter 1: Techniques Revealed: Adding Color to Your Stamped Images
Chapter 2: The Idea Center: Making the Most of Your Scraps
Chapter 3: Design Workshop: Altering Your Die-Cut Letters
Chapter 4: The Idea Center: Scrapping with Household Products
Chapter 5: Design Workshop: Hip Chipboard
Chapter 6: Designer Hints: Using a Color Wheel to Create Color Schemes

And the best part? The price for this class is only $4.99, which includes unlimited viewing!

The classes on Daily Craft TV range in price from $4.99 on up, with class length varying from 30 minutes to two hours depending upon the subject matter.

You must create an account, which is done in a few easy steps similar to most e-commerce sites, before purchasing one or more videos. Upon payment you instantly receive a confirmation email receipt.

The class!

The class I chose jumped right in with the first chapter. Some of the segments in the video I watched are from previous shows offered by one of Daily Craft TV’s partner sites: Paper Crafts magazine, a well-known name if you’re a scrapbooker or paper crafter. What this means is that the entire class moves at a good pace, since the best of the best segments are combined into one full class.

I ended up taking two pages of notes on things I didn’t want to forget, including a few tips that were new to me. What did we cover? Ink pads, stamping, distressing, sanding, using scraps, glitter, adhesives, layouts, paints, chipboard, coordinated colors, papers, watercolor crayons, household supplies used in art, and much more.

My favorite segment was Scrapping with Household Products, as I came away with some new ideas to look around my house (and my own craft studio) with fresh eyes. All of the segments had several layouts and examples to show you the finished techniques, and the instructions were clear with each host obviously knowing her craft, pun intended!

I would love to take the Seven Core Sewing Skills Class! I recently got my sewing machine set up and running. But I am now asking myself, “Where do I start?”. If I could take a class that will help me brush up on my old dusty sewing skills, that were not all that great to begin with, I would be so excited. The Applique Class sparks an interest, as well! Thanks for the opportunity to win such a needed class 🙂

I’ve always wanted to take an online craft class. With small kids it’s hard to get out of the house and do these sorts of things. I think a refresher course in sewing would be great.
