Gold Glitter Wall Art DIY

Gold Glitter Wall Art DIY | The Shed by Pet Scribbles

Maybe it’s because I work with pretty papers in my card-making business, but I am really attracted to gorgeous paper. Whether vintage-style, vibrant and bold designs, smooth or textured, I adore scrapbook and cardstock paper! So it shouldn’t come as a surprise that when I received some gorgeous glitter papers to try out from American Crafts, I was just in awe:

Two designs jumped out at me immediately – the glitter stripes and the glitter flourish papers. They resembled vintage wallpaper designs and in no time at all I created a trio of pretty wall plaques!

I started with three unfinished wood plaques – each 5″ x 5″ square – from the craft store . . .

. . . and painted them in a “suede” color with acrylic craft paint:

I cut out three pieces of the gold glitter papers to fit the front of each plaque. I distressed the edges of each paper and then painted the edges with brown ink. I used a tissue to very lightly add some brown ink to the front of the papers, wiping most of it away, to add to the distressed look. Once dry, I coated the papers with a spray acrylic sealer.

I dry-brushed some diluted white paint over the painted wood and let dry. I used gold glitter glue – also from American Crafts – to emphasize the wood border detail. The gold shade of the glitter glue and the papers was a perfect match!

Once everything was dry, I used Mod Podge to adhere the papers to the plaques. I applied a coat of Mod Podge to both the plaque and the back of each paper. Once I positioned each paper in place, I put a sheet of wax paper on top and used my brayer to smooth out any bubbles.

I turned the plaques upside down (cardstock side facing down) onto a sheet of wax paper and covered them with a heavy book overnight while they dried.
And the next morning? Pretty wall art!

What I think I love most about these glitter papers from American Crafts is that they are sophisticated. Elegant. Adult.
